“The Model T”

Cars are rolling down the assembly line in the Ford Factory. They are just ready to be sold. These cars are a Model T created by Henry Ford. It costs $825, which is a lot of money these days. Each car is built one by one. Only two or three cars are made each day. Henry Ford wants to find a way to lower the price of these cars so everyone can afford to buy it. Henry Ford is a great car designer.

Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863 near Dearborn, Michigan. His parents were William and Mary Ford. He lived on a large farm. He asked his parents many questions. When Henry was a little older, he built a little steam engine at school with his friends. They tried turning it on but it exploded and Henry almost caught on fire. In school he did not pay attention and often got into trouble. Henry was good at reading and math, but never learned to spell or write well.

Henry’s mother died when he was twelve. This was very hard for him to get over. His mom had always had told him he could do “anything he put his mind to do."

When Henry turned sixteen, he moved to Detroit, Michigan. He worked for a jewelry store fixing clocks and watches. He also worked in a machine shop working on steam engines.

Henry signed up for a dancing class where he met a girl named Clara Bryant. Clara and Henry got married in 1888. Clara was a lot like Henry’s mother because she always believed in him.

Henry built his own automobile company. He built his first car called a Quadricycle in 1896. Henry said it looked like a baby carriage.

Henry later built his first race car. He entered a race and won first place. This made him famous. In 1903, Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company. Henry made eight different kinds of cars in the first five years. He named each car after a letter in the alphabet. He finally came up with his ideal car when he built the Model T.Get yours today!
