Bob and the Mysterious Bump

By: Noah

One night, Bob returned to his apartment #13 after a busy day at work. He went to take off his coat in his living room and put it away in his wardrobe. While he removed his coat, he saw a weird bump under his rug. He dare not touch it, for whatever it was, he saw it every night. And Bob was sure it came from the wardrobe.

He was warned that the wardrobe was very mysterious, because it came from a very old house in England. A rich and crazy professor had owned it. There were rumors that the wardrobe led into the mysterious land of Narnia. At first he did not believe it was magical. But now seeing the bump every day, he was beginning to believe it.

When the bump first began appearing, he fought the feeling that it could be real. Bob got glasses because he thought he was seeing things. Instead of the bump disappearing, it only became clearer. In fact every night the bump grew.

Making it even stranger for Bob, the bump would go every morning. It would only appear at night. It would appear after he opened the door to put his coat away and accidentally forgot to close the door. But this night was the strangest of all: the bump had appeared before he opened the wardrobe door.

Bob stood in the middle of the room and stared at the bump for a minute. His mind spun. He didn’t know what it was or why it was there, and he really didn’t care. He just knew he had to get rid of it once and for all -- but how?

He began thinking of what to do to get rid of the thing under his red rug. He thought of calling the police, but he was scared: he was sure the bump would disappear once the police arrived. Then he thought about hitting it with a frying pan. But was afraid it was alien goo and would splatter all over him. Finally, he settled on his chair.

Bob walked over to his dinning room table and picked up one of the chairs. He cackled to himself, picked up the chair, moved toward the bump, ready to strike. He raised the chair above his head and was about to smash the bump when the door to the wardrobe flew open…
